5 Good Reasons to See Ross Purdy – Clownbaby

1) It’s a late night comedy show without the pesky inconvenience of a late night time slot.

2) The closet thing to an Adult Swim cartoon being performed live on stage.

3) Ross is in sketch comedy duo “Late Night Party Boyz” along with Damien Vosk and written for “Dr. Duck” so he’s been around the block a few times, alright mister, he’s cool, he’s hip – your old man is still with it, Rodney. Sorry that last part was for my son.

4) You’ve got nothing else to do. I know what you do. I see where you live, and you’re hardly living up as the Queen of England I tell you that much. A Queen of the England that wouldn’t see this show is no Queen of mine – which is why I want Australia to be a Republic.

5) Show contains traces of: Reality talent shows, ’90s teen movies, La La Land & Ryan Gosling, milk, Triple J, 1970s businessman biopics and a whole section about the final days of the Cold War that was cut due to its jarring tonal shift and introduction characters into the show that up to that point were nowhere to be seen.

Ross Purdy – Clownbaby is on The Sub Club, 33 Elizabeth St (entry via Flinders Court) 6:15pm, Sundays 5:15pm March 28th to April 8th (No Show April 4th)

5 Good Reasons to See Perri Cassie: Secondhand Bubblegum

  1. Perri had such a stellar run last year with his debut hour Channel Perri that the festival put him in some of their swanky venues they keep for the brightest up and coming acts (it me).

2. After his run last year he ventured off to America to go and play some clubs in America including The Comedy Store. To play any club owned by Mitzi Shore is pretty damn cool right? RIGHT? Ah you don’t care. It’s cool though, trust me. Yeah I’ll switch from third-person to regular perspective, whatever. I’ll do it here in this article, I’ll do it in my fucking show if I want, because that’s the kind of rule bending and boundary pushing that’ll get you booked at The Comedy St- look, whatever, it was a good experience.

3. Perri is the best-dressed person in all of comedy. Come for the laughs, stay for the display of a peak 90’s aesthetic.

4. Secondhand Bubblegum will make you feel better about your own awkward moments in life, because his are much, much worse.

5. A joke that’s in this show helped put him in the top 10 on all of Reddit with over 30k likes and Collegehumour’s list of “11 Great Jokes from Rising Comedians” which is worth literally fuck all except an “oh neat” by his friends. It’s a good joke though – you should come hear it throughout the course of the festival as well as many other great jokes.

3. Georgie Parker references!!!!!

4. It’s on at a bookstore which has books with TOTALLY NAKED GUYS on the FRONT COVER so you don’t even have to slyly take the book to the corner and open it to see the NAKED GUYS!!

5. It’s also on at a gallery which is not a sexy bookstore but you can bring your own STEAMY PICS and we won’t say anything!!!

5 good reasons to see Charles Horse lays an Egg by Cam Venn

1.       It’s stupidly fun physical theatre performed with love by a professional fool.

2.       There’s a bit where I sing a Bowie song in a giant inflatable penis suit.

3.       A man lays an egg. Literally.

4.       It’s an epic celebration of space movies and scifi and giant chickens and life.

5.       You’ve probably never seen anything like it.

5 Good Reasons to see James Hazelden’s 12A

1. Black is the new comedy. If you need a change from standup comedy, 12A offers you a much-needed alternative. It’s a darkly funny theatrical play about murder, cowardice, betrayal, superstition and real estate.

2. It has jokes but it’s also weird. And unsettling. And tense. Like a good thriller. With jokes. Weird jokes.

3. It’s written and directed by James Hazelden from Man Bites God, Mystery Radio Theatre and the Theatre of the World podcasts, so if you’ve liked any of that stuff, you’ll like this.

4. It stars Brose Avard (Darren & Brose), Nicholas Roy (The Voice), Chris Tomkins (Man Bites God), Emily Carr, Fleur Murphy and Vaughn Rae. They’re an immensely talented group of comedic actors and performers.

5. It’s performed in the iconic La Mama Theatre – the centre of Melbourne’s underground, subversive theatre movement for the last 50 years.

12A is on at La Mama Theatre (205 Faraday Street, Carlton)
18 April to 22 April – 5 shows only. Book early.

5 Good Reasons To See Nadia Collins in Virgin Bloody Mary

1. Just like in Church – come for the wine and crackers, stay for the live show.

2. There are no words in the whole show. You don’t have to understand English or have even gone to school.

3. The Virgin Mary is a badass superhero who has a permit from the government to commit exorcisms pretty much whenever. Wow! BYO tarpaulin.

4. There is a part of the show that features a realistic tour of the human anatomy. Cool!

5. Sh*t gets weird. It also has 5 and 4 star reviews and an award nomination from Perth Fringe World.

Virgin Bloody Mary is on at The Butterfly Club from March 27 to April 8
