By Colin Flaherty

It’s not long until the 2014 Melbourne International Comedy Festival gets into full swing. To assist you in navigating the colossal program, here are 26 shows that we have reviewed in other festivals. 5 good reasons to see Pajama Party

1. It’s just like a party! But with more sitting in the dark, facing forward and laughing.

2. During our Adelaide run, a dog ran across the stage in the middle of the show. Can you believe it? A dog! It probably won’t happen again but you really can’t afford to take that chance.

3. You can show up in your sleepwear and no will look at you funny. Unless you sleep in the nude.

4. Two Words: Fairy Bread. Did you know Australia is the only country in the world with fairy bread? Look it up. It’s true. Not like that thing we made up about the dog running across the stage in Adelaide

5. If our show was a baked good it would be one of those Pork Floss buns from Breadtop. Equal parts sweet and terrifying.

Sarah Jones and Nicholas Johnson perform Pajama Party at The Downstairs Lounge @ The Swanston Hotel for the first two weeks of the festival.

5 Good Reasons to see Daniel Connell – Dodgem Car Saviour.

1. I guarantee you will learn something during this show.

2. There’s a 73% chance you’ll have a good time.

3. I have just performed the show at Perth Fringe, Adelaide Fringe and the Canberra Comedy festival. I am happy with it and can’t wait for MICF to begin. You should see as many shows as you can, and tell everyone you know to do the same.

4. Here is a short clip of me performing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rZRPwRnzy0<

5.I make up my own statistics.

5 Good Reasons to see Andrew Finegan Sings Songs from the End of the World

1. It’s educational. This show will inform you with a basic knowledge
of the history of the End of the World (‘cos we’ve come *that* close a
few times) and equip you with some survival strategies, should the End
of the World actually happen. Trust me, I’m a librarian.

2. There are songs. Most of them are original, and if you were to
secretly record them, take them to a music producer, and make an
album, then you could get rich. And then I could sue you for stealing
my music, and I’d get rich.

3. I’ve been doing it a while. I wrote a lot of it back in 2012, and
performed it a bunch of times last year. And then I had to rewrite a
whole heap of 2012 references (because let’s face it, the film wasn’t
that great).

4. It’s still relevant. Sure, 2012 is *so* two years ago, but the
beauty of the End of the World is that there’s always another one
around the corner. Sir Isaac Newton predicted the world would end in
2060, and that whole gravity thing worked out well for him.

5. It’s on at the Butterfly Club, with multiple floors of kitsch, a
cocktail bar, and some of the best comedy cabaret shows in the
festival. It’s one of my favourite places in town, and I’m
super-excited to be performing there.

5 Reasons to see Martin Dunlop in Martin Dunlop Begs His God for Forgiveness

1. Her ship never arrived, and though the townsfolk whispered that it had disappeared on the treacherous voyage round Cape Horne, she still comes to you in the dark and quiet, and sits there, waiting.

2. There is a scratching at the edge of hearing that calls to you, demanding that you become something …other.

3. Come on, 12 dollars for 45 minutes of exciting original standup! What are you, a bum? Get outta here!

4. Evelyn picked up her son’s limp corpse and carried it out the front, laying it gently on the curb. Truly, this was the Hardest Rubbish Day.

5. What do you mean? You already went to Martin Dunlop’s show. You *always* went to Martin Dunlop’s show. There was never a time or a place where you didn’t.

Martin Dunlop in Martin Dunlop Begs His God for Forgiveness is on at The Provincial Hotel from April 8

Jennifer Wong Laughable: The One-Liner Show

1, One-liners are short. Perfect if you’ve got a short attention Spanish is a romance language.

2. One-liners are packed with surprises. Great for those who love not being able to predict how each joke will Sasketchewan.

3. One-liners are concise. Wow, I think this is the first time I’ve ever used the word ‘concise’ without having to say ‘Oxford English Dictionary’ right after it. That means a lot.

4. One-liners are full of wordplay. Just Sasketchewanybody.

5. The show is Laughable.
