5 Good Reasons to See Lessons with Luis – Stickin’ Together

1. Go out and get some happy vibes by watching some top quality, non-political, warm and fuzzy comedy made by award-winning comedians like me and my brother in Stickin’ Together.

2. You do not have to sit through ad breaks encouraging you to buy insurance or pasta sauce.

3. It is a good excuse to not have to dust that dusty shelf you have been meaning to dust in your spare time (which is also sometimes dusting time).

4. You can wear that fancy shirt and/or dress you love the look of but do not really have enough occasions to wear it before Easter. It might not fit on you as well after too many chocolate bunnies. Unless you are very strict with yourself. But you know two chocolate bunnies taste better than one.

5. Your cat will let you. They love you so they will respect your choice of seeing a cat person perform, so you do not need to feel bad about going out. Your dog should understand too. Goldfish will not remember you left.

5 Good Reasons to See Sophie Joske: Woman of the Hour

1. It’s classic Hollywood glamour, but weird.

Meet Cassandra Barbitol, an eccentric, deluded dame of the stage with a tale to tell. Woman of the Hour is her story: that of a faded but still glittering star. It’s the demented love child of Grey Gardens and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

2. One woman plays 35 characters.
Yes, I (Sophie Joske, writer and performer) play not only Cassandra Barbitoll but 34 other characters as well. There are no other actors, no set, no props, and no costume changes. Reading this I’m sure you can tell that that’s either very good or very bad. Either way, worth witnessing the spectacle. However:

3. It is really good.
I’m a weird theatre comedy professional and last year I got nominated for the Golden Gibbo, the year before that I was nominated for Best Comedy at FRINGE WORLD in Perth and I’ve sold out a bunch of shows there too. This show in particular is very good. It was only on for 3 nights in Perth and it got two five star reviews! That makes it a ten star show!4. It’s a feminist good time!

It’s surely not surprising that a show called Woman of the Hour has a strong feminist bent. It’s all about the roles women are made to play in performing their gender- in show business and in life. You get to laugh a bunch AND smash the patriarchy!

5. There’s a dinosaur.
Yep. Check it out.

Sophie Joske performs Woman of the Hour at The Butterfly Club April 1-11, 7pm

5 Good Reasons to See The Other Side of 25 by Becca Hurd

1) It is backed by an almost entirely female-identifying creative team

2) Performer Becca Hurd is an American comedian who has opened up for Colin Jost, of SNL fame

3) It includes spontaneous karaoke and original music

4) It’s your last chance to see this show in Australia before it travels to America

5) It’s not what you’re expecting, but I can promise you’ll laugh

Becca Hurd performs The Other Side of 25 at The Butterfly Club March 20 – March 23

This is Not a Melbourne International Comedy Festival Show but still funny no doubt.

5 Good Reasons To See Laurie Black: Space Cadette

1. Sick Beats
As well as being a classically trained pianist, I incorporate synths and drum machines into this space themed cabaret show.  Described as “dark electropop cabaret” or “the potty-mouthed love-child of Victoria Wood and Gary Numan”, this is new-wave neo-cabaret!  Original live music and comedy in the atmospheric setting of the legendary Butterfly Club.
2. Feminism
Space Cadette is about one little alien’s journey and ambition to be the first woman on the moon because, believe it or not, in the 50 years its been since man set foot on the moon, not one woman has set foot (or stiletto heel) there!  It’s literally the most exclusive gentlemen’s club in the world – and it’s not even in the world.  By watching this show, written and created by a woman, you are supporting a woman in the arts and everyone knows that every time you buy a ticket for a woman’s show, a moon cup grows its wings… Or something.
3. It’s LIVE
Because being out in the real world is a really good thing to do, and much better than sitting at home looking at screens.  If you disagree, it’s only an hour – you can go back home and watch Netflix and order Uber Eats later… but supporting the arts, independent artists, venues and the comedy festival itself enriches all of us.  Come sit in a room with some strangers and watch real life entertainment – Laurie Black paints herself green! – anything could happen! – this is the real life, no second chances or rewinds.  Get amongst it.
4. Award Winning
Last year I won Emerging Artist of Adelaide Fringe, along with a Weekly Best Music award… plus my mum says I’m great.
5. It’d be rude not to
I’ve traveled all the way from the UK (via outerspace) to perform for you gorgeous Melbournites at your comedy festival, so it’d be rude not to come along and see what the fuss is about.  In the meantime, you can listen to my tracks on Spotify, iTunes, Deezer etc by searching Laurie Black, or watch some videos on YouTube.  It’d be nice to see your face there, and maybe you can help me run away to the moon?

5 Good Reasons to See Snort With Friends

1. Because it’s important to get out of the house and socialise, we’ve all been talking about how you’re staying in a lot lately.

2. It’ll make you laugh a little bit or A LOT, depending on the quality of the show that night. It’s improv, so who knows?!

3. Again, I do just think it’ll be good for you to leave the house. We could get a drink before hand.

4. Buying tickets means that the  cast of Snort make money! While this might not be of much importance to you, I can assure you, it’s of huge value to the cast of Snort.

5. Because what is life without live improv comedy theatre?

Snort With Friends is on at Melbourne Town Hall (various times and rooms) For further info and tickets:
