5 Good Reasons to see Tandem

1. It’s a show that’s all about the importance of friendship and working together – something the world definitely needs a lot of right now!

2. We do 16 sketches in 50 minutes. That’s ACTION-PACKED comedy.

3. It’s two solo comedy shows in one, running in… Tandem. (We’re quite proud of that one.) That’s double the laughs for the same time!

4. The show is a triple threat: sketch, improv, and music. Did we mention it’s action-packed?!

5. The show features cake, crustaceans, coats, comradely, clergy, and of course… comedy. (Sorry if that breaks the five reasons limit!)

Derek Wilson and Kieran Boyd perform Tandem at Crowded in the Vaults – Vault 11 Sept 11 – 16

5 Good Reasons To See The Pageant

1) It’s a high stakes drag character comedy about a children’s beauty pageant.

2) It is pure chaos.

3) The show is being directed by Ell Sachs (The Travelling Sisters) and she’s amazing.

4) We wear white teeth enamel on our teeth and it’s gross but it’s just for you.

5) There are lots of SURPRISES!

The Pageant is on at Trades Hall – Old Council Chambers from September 21 to 29

5 Good Reasons To See Puppet Jam

1) Puppets can do things humans can’t. Sooo many things! (i.e. If you think necromancy is cool then this show is pretty much that but instead of raising dead people with blood and guts, it’s puppets breaking the laws of reality).

2) It will be a bunch of professional puppeteers given totally, unbound, creative freedom…and the results are going to be out there!

3) If you like clown/drag/physical comedy and general silliness.

4) If you also like your comedy with a good dose of queer, feminism politics!

5) If you think puppets are lame, dull, or “just for kids”…think again! This is adults’ puppetry at it’s most wild and weird. 😉

Puppet Jam is on at The Rattlesnake Saloon from September 26 to 28

5 Good Reasons to See Billy vs the Internet (according to Billy Sutherland)

1. You’ll get a few tips on what can be achieved with old, cheap equipment rather than
breaking the bank on the latest technology, even if newer technology is more reliable
and less prone to breaking down.

2. You’ll learn about what can happen when you neglect certain responsibilities that come
with dating in the age of social media.

3. You’ll understand why Waltzing Matilda is problematic.

4. You’ll get to see The Wiggles for who they really are.

5. You’ll get to see what goes on behind the scenes in the life of a beginning YouTuber

Sam Hargreaves performs Billy vs the Internet at The Butterfly Club Sept 23 – 29

5 good reasons to see TriAngel

1. The cast!

Collectively they have over 60 years of improv experience between them, hailing from 3 of the worlds best commonwealth states. Yikes! Individually they’ve toured locally and internationally as improvisers and teachers, and have extensive experience with all of Melbourne’s top improv companies: Impro Melbourne, The Big Hoo-Haa Melbourne, Impromptunes and Improv Conspiracy.

2. The music!

Award-winning musician Jamie Burgess adds his musical magic to all the songs. They may be improvised, but boy will they be catchy, ticking all the pop-trope boxes and using titles provided by the audience, promising a unique experience with a guaranteed earworm each night!

3. Nostalgia!

TriAngel is a chance to relive your childhood pop fantasies and get up close and personal to that It-girl band you never knew.

4. Improv!

You get a unique performance every night, where your suggestions will help create the story and the music. No two shows or songs are the same.

5. Sparkles!

Hoo-boy! There has been so much cash spent on glitter and sparkles that this makes TriAngel the most flammable show of the festival! If it couldn’t be done with a hot glue gun, it couldn’t be done.

Amanda Buckley, Amy Moule and Candice D’Arcy perform TriAngel at Trades Hall from Sept 12 – 20

5 Good Reasons to see Boys Taste Better with Nutella

1. Nutella. Need more be said?

2. Ok, if more needs to be said then…. Boys Taste Better with Nutella is performed by award-winning duo Caitlin Hill and Peter Wood. Hill is a theatre, film and television actor as well as one of the first Australian YouTubers. She currently has a new show, Snacks & Facts, and even did an episode on Nutella. Wood is an Australasian actor, dancer and performance-maker whose work focuses on LGBTQ+ issues with Asian-Australian influences. Hill and Wood are so funny and so genuine as performers that audiences are laughing one minute and crying the next.

3. It gets pretty messy! There is a lot of Nutella and rain of fries. If you want to see an hilarious, heartfelt and slightly sticky show with your friends, come to Boys Taste Better with Nutella.

4. Boys Taste Better with Nutella is part theatre, part comedy and centres on best friends Aggy and Frederick. Aggy and Frederick may be self-loathing, socially anxious and addicted to food, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With Aggy once again falling for the wrong guy and Frederick’s most fulfilling connection being with his internet provider, they review the best (and worst) moments of their past relationships. Using hilarious observations and kitsch dance moves, it is described by producer and co-director, Kristen Maloney, as Fleabag meets a tub of Nutella and So You Think You Can Dance.

5. Don’t take our word for it! Boys Taste Better with Nutella was awarded Fringe World Festival 2019 weekly award for BEST Theatre; it won Best Production, Best Script and Best Actor at Short+Sweet 2016; AND reviewers think it is pretty good  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Isolated Nation,⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The Fourth Wall, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️WeekendNotes, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Agent Mystery Case.

Boys Taste Better with Nutella is on at The Melba Speigeltent Collingwood.
