5 good reasons to see Michael Workman: Nothing You Do Means Anything

1. You have recently had a psychotic break, and you’re looking for a crowded place to ‘cleanse’ society of ‘thought stealers.’

2. You mistakenly thought this was the line for Stephen K Amos.

3. You couldn’t get in to Kitson.

4. You are currently a ghost haunting the theatre I’m playing in.

5. You are a ghost buster politely enduring my show whilst trying to catch the ghost that haunts the theatre I’m playing in.

Michael Workman’s Nothing You Do Means Anything is on at The Chinese Museum

5 Good Reasons to See Aaron Chen The Infinite Faces of Chenny Baby

1) I’m stupid

2) I’m an idiot

3) I’m dumb

4) I’m worthless

5) But I’m still better than Tom Walker (2016 MICF Best Newcomer)

5 Good reasons to see Gillian Cosgriff 8 Songs in 8 Weeks

1. It has a story about an abandoned Russian cruise ship in it. You won’t BELIEVE what happens next.

2. It’s music AND comedy. Who doesn’t love a two-for-one? BARGAIN.

3. There is a whole song about alternate greeting card slogans. This will be great for your future festive occasions. I bequeath these slogans to you. For free. BARGAIN.

4. The show is on at The Butterfly Club, where the staff are notoriously cool and will make you all manner of festive beverages. There is a cocktail named after me, the Gillian Just B’Cosgriff. Where else can you drink a novelty beverage based on the show you’re about to see? Puns! Booze! Treats!

5. During the show I write a song for an audience member, about anything they like. This could be YOU. Have you always wanted a song about your dog? Or about your first date? Or about that time your first date was allergic to your dog? I CAN WRITE YOU THIS SONG.

Gillian Cosgriff  performs 8 Songs in 8 Weeks at The Butterfly Club March 29 – April 9

5 good reasons to see Matt Harvey: The face of gentrification & other ideas

1. You like smart comedy that will make you laugh and maybe even pause to appreciate an idea. Matt Harvey was described by comedian Frank Hamster as a “philosophical comedian” while he doesn’t necessarily know if that’s true he likes it a lot.

2. You are a good person and a supporter of all things locally sourced. This locally sourced comedian grown from entirely local ingredients… (eww).

3. A lot of shows you see this year will have dick jokes or be a bit rude. This show might be a bit rude but there will be maybe one dick joke. But it is in service of a much bigger ideal, I promise.

4. The show has done two successful festival runs so is in its most polished and powerful final form. You’ll never see this show do better.

5. The show has received 4 and 5 star reviews from audience members. You know, trust worthy people like you. You’re a person like you. You can trust you.

Matt Harvey: The face of gentrification & other ideas is on at The Tickle Pit from April 17

5 Good Reasons to see Blake Everett – King of Nothing

1. Don’t.

2. I’m real good at humour. The above reason was an example of said humour. If you come to the show you will see more of that, and it will most likely be of a higher quality.

3. It’s a one-man variety hour (50 minutes). The show is a unique mix of stand-up, musical comedy and sketch, so there’s something for the whole family (except children – they will be scarred for life).

4. It’s more than a comedy show. There’s an underlying moral that revolves around the idea that it doesn’t matter if you’re the king of nothing, as long as you’re doing what you love, and I most certainly am. Now you’re probably thinking, that’s not funny, that’s awe-inspiring and kinda beautiful… and my response is; yes it is. In regards to worries about lack of humour, please refer to reason number 2.

5. Support the local scene. I’m a 19 year old Melbournian comedian. I’m the future of comedy. If you don’t come see my show I’ll probably give up and you’ll be the sole blame. Like yeah, go see Paul Foot too, I know I will… but also see me.

Blake Everett performs King of Nothing at Tasma Terrace from April 10

5 Good Reasons to See George Dimarelos Self-Sabotage

1. You’re the kind of person that is easily swayed by lists containing exactly five numbered points.

2. You met a man who offered you 5 magic beans if you give him your last cow but only if you go and watch Self-Sabotage first. You readily accepted as he laughed in a vaguely ironic manner.

3. The initials “SS” appeal to you for a strange, slightly disquieting reason

4. You want to feel better about times when you’ve screwed yourself by listening to someone talk about times when they’ve self sabotaged so badly that they’ve been mentally and physically scarred from it. Times when alcohol, pride and fear have combined into a bitter cocktail of public humiliation that they will never live down and hangs, like a shadow, over everything they do.

5. You like the poster.

George Dimarelos is performing Self-Sabotage at The Bull & Bear Tavern (not Tuesdays)
